Poksak Foster Fund

By supporting Poksak, you are supporting social change. The Poksak Foster Fund program is a scholarship program in partnership with the Orphan Foundation of America. The program is designed to enable foster children over the age of 18 to fulfill their dream of attending university by providing scholarship money for tuition and other necessary funds for university. As of yet, we have raised a significant amount of money, thanks to our loyal consumers. The scholarship money will be put to use for the 2010-2011 school year.

Why Foster Children?

You might ask why we chose to create the Poksak Foster Fund. We are a team of educators; we thrive on expanding our knowledge through education. Our mission is to encourage younger, less fortunate youth, who are the future of our country, to have the will and desire to better their lives.

The amount of children in the foster care system is staggering. There is currently over 500,000 youth in the foster care system. Of those 500,000, approximately 40% are between the ages of 13 and 21. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, 26,181 (9%) age out of the foster care system every year. Once the child ages out of the system, meaning they are over the age of 18, the likelihood of them receiving the necessary means and knowledge to be fully functional adults is very limited. Many of them do not have access to higher educational opportunities, health care, employment, among other things. Studies show those who leave the foster care system find themselves dependent on government assistance, homeless, parents at an early age, or in prison.

For every Poksak purchased, 25 cents goes to the Poksak Foster Fund. By purchasing a Poksak, you will contributing to bettering the life of a foster child. Encourage your family and friends to purchase Poksaks. You can also donate directly to the Poksak Foster Fund on our online store page.
